Stillwater, a quaint country town...has always been a sort of haven for the domestic cat.
Plenty travel, move or suddenly end up there. They have their own goals, own lives; being drawn together. The humans so much tuned with nature welcomed the furry felines as companions, neighbors or garbage disposals for the trash.
In order to keep their community pure, their reputation untainted and the economy flowing; the residents have hid a secret from the outside world. And that secret wants out.
The cats have begun to sense a threat on the horizon, among their happy community. The humans remain to their cause, yet have begun to fuel hatred and confusion. Amongst all this, will Stillwater become a town cast in red?

old jack has run this gas station for nearly fifty years. despite paint chipping in a few places, the place is well put together. quite popular for bait and tackle for the fishermen. it is literally the first stop for all passengers coming into Stillwater. and not just humans too.
soft gray pavement snakes up the blocks of Barber Street. row after row of little townhouse shops, bikes hitched up outside on green racks, dogs chained and waiting for their owners. it's always busy on the street. behind each shop is a back alley, a whole other world that the humans don't know about. but you do.
a tall, brown brick building with a statue of some old man in the front. eh. it's the usual with any government. just have to have some type of statue. elevated from the ground, long staircase made of marble leads up to the heavy oak doors. the mayor of Stillwater often comes from these doors and addresses the town.
the cats affectionately call the human running this local business 'The Catcher'. near the town hall, a few blocks down is a gray stone building engraved at the front; Highest Hopes with underneath 'Stillwater Pound'. a few potted flowers are seen, the outside decorated nicely. in the back is a driveway, a white van parked.
up past the row of street shops, take a right by the town hall and you'll get to a reclusive area that takes you ten minutes. both old and new houses litter the suburban feel residential living quarters. many of the locals live on farms miles from the actual town. but many find the money to pay mortgage for a spot of land here, pretty it up and 'live in the country'. house cats of all shapes and sizes patrol their gardens, front lawns and neighbors. its not uncommon to run into 'that cat down the road'.
the lake is always beautiful at any given day or season. ducks lazily drift by on surface sometimes, yet always the lake of Stillwater is quiet and untouched. boats are not permitted on the water for some reason, but residents care not to disturb the peace anyway. there is a parking lot in front of the lake that melts away to a sandy beach. a couple of children swing sets sway to the right in a sand box and to the left is a walk way with a couple of stores along the store.
with the release of movie theaters, the drive-in is the thing of the past. still though, the locals preserve their piece of history weekly by cutting the weeds and dusting the old film. cats find privacy here among the abandoned vehicles, popcorn booths and find great amusement staring up at the wide screen.
surrounded by tall iron fences that used to be backed up by electricity, with the power shut off, the grounds around the factory have been exposed to wild animals. rust nibbled away at one point, wearing the area down to a fair sized amount where a medium sized beast could squeeze through. this is the only entrance to the factory besides the gate which humans use. a wide path goes up to the sealed door, an unkept lawn now grows without care.
a test subject once called this place prison. in a dimly lit hall, hundreds of cages go row in row. top, bottom, side...all in the walls. it is where the humans kept their little experiments. now it is the only home of the infected cats.
a circular room in the center of the factory, painted white. rows of hardy straps held down the test subjects to the wooden bowls of food brought to them. now it is different, abandoned. the infected cats roam here, gorging themselves on the massive bags of tainted kibble left by B-X Corp. the room is slowly dulling due to lack of care.
part of Briar Wood is owned by the Miller family, long time residents of Stillwater. the Millers let their cattle roam a fenced woodland, so tourists often see cows poking their heads out of the forest on Miles Highway. it's an odd sight to newcomers, but not to loyal tourists. Miller's Ranch is an old farmyard yet very well kept. a bright red painted barn, stable, chicken coop, shed for equipment... not to mention the house keeping the family.
a cat long ago figured out how to spell the 'miles' at the end of the sign telling how fast a human could drive their vehicle. so they say. it's more of a joke these days, so the cats call this highway streaking near Briar Wood; Miles Highway. it's a long, two way, black paved death pool that kills more cats than the coyotes do.
be careful of the things that you can't see. around this patch of clear-cut frolic lies deep wood ahead. it's not so easy to be snuck up on, since the brambles tug at fur and make so much noise. to the east is the back of the lake, to the west is the limit of Stillwater. north lies the camping grounds.
part of Stillwater's lake, the creek runs a good distance into Briar Wood. a little more the size of a grown cat in width, in rainy seasons the creek can swell dangerously. even children are warned against going near it during that time. the current is often strong enough to pull a cat in.
we aren't entirely sure when built, but old copper train tracks are still visible among some parts of the thick frolic of Briar Wood. whether they were part of Stillwater's founding history or part of a much larger train station...these old tracks are now never used, abandoned by the locals. they led nowhere in particular.
